Great list! Thanks for sharing. That said, I'd like to submit Solar VPS for consideration. Despite what the company name would imply, they don't directly make use of alternative energy (yet). However, their approach to achieving "green" status is through the technological equivalent of hypermiling (my interpretation). IMO it's an admirable angle and one worth paying attention to.

Thanks again!

I was just looking for a list of “good” hosts. I commend them on their start.I started to notice how careful some hosts were.

Hi,

Thanks for including our company, Acorn Host, in your list!

Can I clarify two things?

First, there might be some confusion here about the term "carbon neutral". I'm not sure about the other hosts here, but we are not actually buying "carbon credits". This implies offsetting pollution somehow. What we actually purchase are "green energy certificates" - this means that we pay for green energy to be put into the power grid equal to the amount of energy we use. Our dollars go directly to pay for green energy. While it's not possible to guarantee that those exact wind-power-produced electrons end up powering our machines, it is the next best thing.

Also, we definitely seek to reduce waste, for instance using only electronic invoices rather than paper.

Second, our listing says we are a "reseller" - this perhaps is based on old information. When we started in 2001, we started out with a "reseller" account from another hosting company and a small number of local customers. We soon grew and started leasing dedicated servers from a datacenter. While we don't own the servers, we do manage them and deal directly with the datacenter without an intermediary host, which is different than the commonly understood meaning of the term "reseller".

Again, thanks for the mention! It's great to see so many green hosting options for folks to choose from.
